Our class read-aloud is HOW TO STEAL A DOG by Barbara O'Connor.
We all love this book and we do not want the story to end. The book's main character is a girl named Georgina and she is very poor and lonely. One student in our class said that this book teaches you to be thankful for what you have. Another student said that when you are reading the book, you feel like you are in the book.
As Mrs. Alaniz reads the book aloud to us, we respond in our Reader's Notebooks. We sketch the pictures we see in our minds, we write predictions, or we ask questions. We ask a lot of questions. (We also like to ask and answer our own questions.) Mrs. Alaniz says that's a good thing.

In math today, we learned how to multiply two-digit numbers. Some of us already knew one way to do this using something Mrs. Alaniz calls an "algorithm".
But Mrs. Alaniz taught us to multiply two-digit numbers by using an array. She could hardly wait to show us! This is what it looks like:

Yesterday Mrs. Melton came back from Vietnam. Vietnam is located in Asia. In Vietnam their money is called dong. Their capital is Hanoi. Their language is Vietnamese.

Mrs. Melton's favorite food to eat while she was there was sweet potato fries and Vietname chili fries. Mrs Melton's favorite sight was all the landforms. She said it was beautiful.
Mrs. Melton went to Vietnam because she wanted to teach teachers. We even got to Skype with her while she was there. (There is a 12-hour time difference.)
Mrs. Melton brought souvenirs for each student in 4th grade. She gave us wonderful toy dragonflies.
There is a point and you put the point on your finger and the dragonfly balances.
It is really fun to use! There are lots of beautiful colors and designs.
We had fun with the dragonflies. Some students even made little houses for them. We really like them.

Our class is participating in NaNoWriMo. NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month. We will write a novel that we will be finished with at the end of November. Mrs. Alaniz teaches us lessons everyday to help us with our writing. We set goals to write at least a certain amount of words each day.
