Our class loved the book. It's a great story about an amazing silverback gorilla named Ivan. He has some friends named Stella, Ruby and Bob. I won't tell you anymore because we highly recommend you read the book and we want you to enjoy it for yourself!
We loved the book so much we even Skyped with the author.
But I have one more thing to mention to my class.
Something THEY don't know!
At a conference this summer, I MET the wonderful author of The One and Only Ivan!
I met Katherine Applegate!

How happy do I look? I think I am VERY HAPPY! She was awesome and so very nice. I also delivered our banner! (We made a banner for Katherine Applegate.)
She loved it! She said she was going to take very, very good care of it.
These wonderful moments would never have happened had it not been for ONE BOOK.

I bet your new class will think that's so neat how you met Katherine Applegate. :) I just read The One and Only Ivan last weekend, and I plan to do the Global Read Aloud with my class for the first time this year.
