40-Book Challenge

Everyone needs a challenge.  If we never set a goal, how will we ever accomplish anything?
So, last week, I gave the 4D Scholars* the following challenge.

Read 40 chapter books this year.

I got the idea from a wonderful author and teacher named
Donalyn Miller.

My students gave me incredulous looks at first, but, wonderfully, they immediately began reading.  And, they are not reading for a prize, party, or certificate---for I will give none of these.   Instead, they receive the immeasurable reward of having read and acquired all the knowledge and ideas contained in the books.  Throughout the year, my students and I will keep up with the running total and inform all of our progress!  Last year, my students read a total of 911 books!

Shouldn't you challenge yourself as well?

*In 4D, we are scholars because we are always seeking to know and discover.
