21st Century Classroom

This week we are trying out some new desks. These desks are awesome! They are the new future of learning.

We are borrowing them for a little while. Here they are lined up outside our classroom ready to go!

The bottom part of the desk is for holding your backpack and learning supplies. These desks help us learn because you can move your stuff with you. Your stuff stays with you no matter what at all times.

One student said this about the desks: "You can stretch out your legs!"

Another student said: "It's more comfortable than it looks! The design is very complex!"

If you have partners for projects, you can go up to them in your chairs and get right to learning.
These two students are having a book discussion.
(The book they are reading is called WONDERSTRUCK by Brian Selznick. You should read this book! It's on the Texas Bluebonnet Award Master List for 2012-2013.)

Here, the students in one group are working on preparations to make a banner for an author visit. They just rolled up to one another and started planning!

The desktop moves so around so that we can get comfy and work on digital projects with our laptops.

The chairs are amazing because they rotate, and you can get a view of the room and your teacher no matter where she is in the room!

Mrs. Alaniz says we are learning about these chairs as we go! Every day, we are figuring out something new about them.

When we had our old desks and we lined up to leave the room, the chairs hit the desks and made noise. These chairs don't make a sound.

We are very pleased with these chairs. Check our blog in the next week to find out more about these awesome desks!

Note from Mrs. Alaniz: These chairs are made by Steelcase. This particular model is known as the Node.

We tried these new desks out in fifth grade. They would be good because we switch classes! We think that the bottom should be closed on 3 sides, but we really like them!
