In Social Studies we are learning about
the Texas Revolution.
Did you know that the year 2011 is the 175th anniversary of Texas Independence? At historic sites all over over Texas, this milestone anniversary is being remembered through reenactments, dramatizations, and other special events.
Those sites include:
- The Alamo in San Antonio
- Washington-on-the-Brazos Historic Site (where Texas delegates wrote the constitution of the Republic of Texas)
- San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site in La Porte (where Sam Houston drove the Texans to victory at the Battle of San Jacinto)
As we read historical fiction based on the period (and read the chapters in our social studies textbook), our classroom is filled with the voices of Jim Bowie, William Barrett Travis, and the adopted Texan (from Tennessee), Davy Crockett.
Which part of the Texas Revolution is the most interesting to you?
