Multiplication with 2-digit numbers

In math class today, we worked on multiplying 2-digit numbers.
We learned that you can break the factors apart to find the product.
See how we figured out the answer to 14 X 12 (168).
Some of used centimeter grid paper to draw an array.
Some of us used colored tiles.
Some of us figured out the answer without pictures or objects.
Everyone learned the meaning of the problem, though.
Breaking apart a problem into easier problems helps us solve it.
Everyone has different strategies for solving these problems.
Just like a carpenter has different tools in his tool belt, we need to know different strategies to solve problems.
Talking about our solutions helps everyone see the problem in different ways. Our class loves to learn together!
