In math, we have been learning about data and how it is collected. Data is gathered through observation, interviews, polls, and surveys. We wanted to know what it is like to gather data for a purpose, so we worked with a partner to conduct a survey. Mrs. Alaniz taught us how to write good survey questions (easy to understand, clear, one question/one item). Then we brainstormed on things we wanted to know.
Examples: How many siblings do you have?
How many pets do you have? How many teeth have you lost?
We wanted to compare data with two groups. So we compared the boys's answers' to the girls' answers.
Here are some of our questions:
1.) Have ou ever broken anything in your house?
2.) How many years have you lived in Texas?
3.) Do you prefer Sprite or Coke?
4.) Do you prefer blue or pink?
5.) Do you have a cell phone?
We then represented our data in bar graphs. We'll show our results in another post!
Can you think of another survey question?
