This week, a certain silverback gorilla has been very popular in our classroom.
His name is Ivan.
He's the main character of the book The One and Only Ivan. He lives in an arcade with an elephant and visitors pay to see him.
Ever since I 'book talked' Ivan in our classroom, many of the readers in our class want to read the book. They have chosen to read it independently rather than as a read-aloud.
Some students have gone to the public library to check it out, too! That makes me very happy.
My students know Katherine Applegate from another book she wrote: HOME OF THE BRAVE.
