Dee Garretson is the author of WOLF STORM which is being sold at our Scholastic Book Fair.
We took notes in our writer's notebooks. Ms. Garretson told us about how she came up with the ideas for her books and she explained her writing routine. She said she writes for 20 minutes non-stop, then does something fun like go outside. She also writes 1,000 words at a time.
Ms. Garretson talked about how important it was to write about something you're interested in, so she writes about animals.
It was interesting to hear Ms. Garretson talk about how she decided to be a writer. She even showed us her cat!
Learning from authors is so fun! We picked up some great tips!
I liked talking with the author because she told us about a great book called Wolf Storm and she showed us her cat. We were very lucky to have her skyping with us!
ReplyDeleteThat's neat that you got to hear from the author of a book! Did she tell you where she gets the ideas for her books?
ReplyDeleteYes she did and she show us how she writes and she has a cute kitten we had lots of fun.
ReplyDeleteDo you like kittens? and do you like to read?
I do like kittens. I even like when they grow up to become cats. I have two fluffy, black cats named Artemis and Anansi. Both of their names come from characters in mythology and folklore. Have you read any stories with characters named Artemis or Anansi? If not, you should ask the librarian to help you find a story or two so you can learn more about them.
ReplyDeleteI like to read, too. When I was younger, I read lots and lots of books like A Wrinkle in Time and The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. As an adult I still read books, but I also read a variety of blogs, web sites, and magazines. I like reading because it helps me learn about what is going on in other places in the world.
