Global Read Aloud Begins!
Today was the kick-off for Global Read Aloud 2012! (Check out the blog badge on the sidebar!) We are one of many classes in the world reading THE ONE AND ONLY IVAN by Katherine Applegate. Mrs. Alaniz will read aloud from this book each day, and so will other teachers all around the globe!
Our teachers will connect and share ideas, then we will connect with their classes, too.
We really love this book so far. We are on page 13. (Ivan is a silverback gorilla. )
Here are some of the predictions we made about the book today:
"I think it's going to be about Ivan running away with his elephant friend."
"I think this story is about where Ivan moves to a zoo and makes a new friend."
I think it's about a gorilla that does not think he is special."
We also learned two new words from this book:
migrate--to go from one country, region, or place to another
wail -- to utter a sad, mournful cry
What do you know about silverback gorillas? Have you read this book?

I read The One and Only Ivan to my fourth grade students last year. You are going to love it as much as they did. I look forward to reading your blog posts.
ReplyDeleteWow, you certainly have great prediction, it will be very interesting to see if any of them come true. I have already read the book but will not tell you what happens just that is an amazing book. Enjoy the read aloud!

I have not read this book before. Is it realistic fiction, fantasy, or a different genre?
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting that there is a gorilla and an elephant on the cover, but the elephant is so small! Aren't elephants bigger than gorillas? My prediction is that it is a baby elephant and that is why it is so small.
