The End of Our Global Read Aloud

Ivan's favorite food!

Today we finished the book The One & Only Ivan. We thought it was an incredible book because it is a true story, and is a very emotional book. Our class loves this book because it taught us many new strategies about writing. Our class is very excited because the book The One & Only Ivan has made our Texas Bluebonnet Award Master List for 2013- 2014. We loved doing the Global Read Aloud with Ivan. We connected with other classes via Twitter and Skype.  It was a great experience.  

 

We wrote our responses to the book on a piece of butcher paper.

Katherine Applegate wrote this story because she was very intrigued about Ivan's life (we heard her talk about the book in a podcast ).  Ivan actually lived in a circus-themed mall for 27 years! Since we noticed that Ivan's habitat was dull and plain we thought we could create the perfect habitat for Ivan! Here are some of the creations that our class made:
