Three of the Day's Highlights

Many awesome things happened in 4A today, but we are sharing three with you here!

Highlight #1

In Writer's Workshop, we wrote about an item that has sentimental value for us. We wrote about what is special to us. Some students wrote about gifts from family members, souvenirs, photos, and other items.

These items have a lot of sentimental value for us as a class. One of them is our stuffed Ivan . He is our class mascot! He means a lot to us!

Highlight #2

Two students in our class just HAD to get a book that came out yesterday (October 2nd) called THE MARK OF ATHENA. It is written by Rick Riordan, and it is a great book to read (if you ahve read the two previous ones which were THE LOST HERE and THE SON OF NEPTUNE).  Here are two pictures of the book: one with the book jacket and one without it.

Highlight #3

Another student in our class brought in examples of an artifact:

Can you tell which one is a picture? (The other two are real.) We learned that an artifact is an "object made by people".

Here are some questions for you:

Do you have an item that has sentimental value to you?
Do you buy books the day they are released (like Mrs. Alaniz does)?

Do you have an example of an artifact?

We hope you enjoyed our highlights today!

  1. Thank you for sharing your highlights. It sounds like you had an interesting day. I really like Writer's Workshop. I hope to read some of your stories sometime.

I have a lot of items that are sentimental. The first one that I thought of is a stuffed animal I got as a present when my family lived in Japan when I was a little boy. The stuffed animal is a blue and white cat with a magic pouch. His name is Doraemon. They still make cartoons about him. You can learn more if you search on the internet. I had forgotten all about him until I found him in a box after I went to college. He reminds me about the fun times I had when I was a kid.

To answer your second question, I don't usually buy books on the day they are released. I like to check them out from the library or I wait to buy them at Half Price Books. It saves me money! I did buy the Harry Potter books as soon as they were released. I was too impatient to wait to read them. :-)

And finally, I was thinking about artifacts and usually we think of old things when we hear that word. I like your definition because it just says "objects made by people". That doesn't mean it has to be old. When I was a teacher, my students would make posters to show what they had learned about a new topic like in science. The posters they made were artifacts of what they had learned. Your class blog is an artifact, too. It was made by you! People can look back and read about all the fun things you did in your class and all the things you learned.
