Literary Elements

In Reader's Workshop this week, we learned about three literary elements:
CHARACTERS: the people or animals in a story
SETTING: the time and place of a story
PLOT: the pattern of events in a story
In the plot, you will find a goal or problem, rising action, climax, and resolution (how the story turns out).
We can usually figure out the setting by reading clues that tell where and when the story takes place.

Knowing all about these elements helps us write better, too. Identify the characters, setting, and plot in each book you read and you'll understand more!
