Trailers and Previews

Today in Reader's Workshop, we saw the movie trailer for the movie Because of Winn Dixie.  Mrs. Alaniz said trailers were like previews of books because you learn what the book is about.

We learned it was a book first, and we read parts of it with a buddy.  Like we learned last week, this is realistic fiction because the characters could be real and they face real problems.

Preview=Skimming and scanning

How do we preview? We preview by looking at :
  • the title
  • the author
  • illustrations
  • back of the book
  • subheadings
  • table of contents
  • captions
When we preview, we predict what the story will be about.  As we read, we change our predictions.
As one 4D student said, previewing a book is like getting a "demo" of it.  Very well said!
Mrs. Alaniz said we really preview anything we read, listen to or watch.

Now we've started up a sign-up sheet for this great book!
A good movie,
but an even better book!!
